African Studies in Europe (AEGIS)

AEGIS Logo

AEGIS is a network organisation made up of Europe-based member institutions connected to research and education on and in Africa and African Studies. Set up in 1991, it has expanded substantially since then. A key focus then – as now – was to facilitate meaningful institutional and individual connections and synergies within Europe, as well as to strengthen relationships with similar scholars and institutions in Africa, and elsewhere. ...more

Bavarian Research Institute of African Studies (BRIAS)

BRIAS Logo

The Bavarian Research Institute for African Studies was founded in 2014 through a cooperation agreement between the Institute for African Studies (lAS) at the University of Bayreuth, the Institute for New Energy Systems (InES) at Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences, the Africa Institute at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences, and the Forum Africa Centre at Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg.

Today, the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan Triesdorf is also part of the network. The aim is to pool scientific expertise on Africa in Bavaria and to carry out joint interdisciplinary research projects in order to combine the strengths of the different locations. The research centres on technological innovations and their socio-cultural embedding.
